Don't Be Defined By What You Didn't Do

Once in a while, I stumble upon something in my digital meanderings that strikes a chord.  More often than not, these things hail from the same corner of the Interwebs:  TED.  TED (acronym: Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a nonprofit with a simple mission of spreading ideas. TED Talks  are the global conferences that bring together the most interesting thinkers, professionals and "do-ers", all of which deliver the "talk of their lives" in 18 minutes or less.  The topics run the gamut from global issues about educating Afghan girls to entertainment talks about the "art of asking".

The Idle Tuesdays of Life

When found my bucket list hanging out with the forgotten discount punch cards in my wallet, the idea for this blog began began to surface.  Reading through it, I realized that I had done some of the things that my 17-year-old self had originally put on there.  Not only could I check off some of the items, but also I could tell a story about it. I vowed its completion soon after finding the list, holding myself accountable to...well...living.  In order to have content--or stories rather--for the blog, I'd have to create the chapter in my own life first.  Planning my adventures to create an environment for stories has challenged me and brought me joy over the last couple of years.

Why Not?

When I tell people that I blog about completing my bucket list, the most common reply is a light-hearted, yet sarcastic, "That's cool! Wait, so...are you planning on dying anytime soon?!?" I think there's a common perception that trying to do things off your bucket list (let alone even having one) is something you do when you'e close to, you  know...kicking the bucket.

Famous Bucket Lists

When I first launched this blog, I anticipated that I would be more motivated to check things off of my bucket list. What I didn't realize, though, was how much more curious I would become about the the bucket lists of others.  It's so interesting (and a good conversation topic :) ) to find out what other people have always wanted to accomplish!
